About the role
This position exists to provide professional civil engineering services for the Department of Natural Resources under the supervision and responsible charge of a licensed professional engineer. The position supports the inspection, design, rehabilitation, replacement, construction, and administration of bridges and related civil infrastructure statewide.
Responsibilities
- Perform, assist with, and coordinate bridge inspections statewide using the Department’s bridge asset management database and applicable bridge inspection procedures. This work requires statewide travel, including occasional overnight stays.
- Prepare and develop feasibility studies, construction plans, specifications, estimates, and contract documents for bridge and related civil engineering projects so that projects meet applicable engineering standards, are suitable for bidding and award, and can be properly constructed.
- Develop and administer RFPs and consultant contracts for small to medium-sized engineering and construction-related contracts, including scope development, consultant selection support, technical review, coordination, and contract management.
- Provide engineering support, construction inspection, and construction administration services during construction so that projects are completed in accordance with contract documents, applicable standards, schedule requirements, and project objectives.
- Perform special engineering assignments for the DNR so that emergencies, unusual field conditions, and unique project needs receive appropriate technical review, documentation, and engineering support.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering field from an ABET-accredited program AND two years of post-graduation civil engineering experience.
- Or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, or a closely related engineering field, from an accredited college/university AND one-year civil engineering experience.
- Engineer-in-Training/Fundamentals of Engineering certification or ability to obtain within the 12-month probationary period.
- Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in model-based designing and plan production using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Knowledge and experience with design and project management on civil engineering projects.
- Working knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: bridge design, bridge inspection, bridge construction, or bridge hydraulics.
Qualifications
- Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering field from an ABET-accredited program AND two years of post-graduation civil engineering experience.
- Preferred qualifications: Certified MnDOT Bridge Inspection Team Leader, Knowledge of bridge design per AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, Experience with construction observation of bridge projects, Experience with bridge inspection and asset management applications, Construction Stormwater certifications including SWPPP Designer and SWPPP Site Management, Certification as a MNDOT Bridge Construction Inspector.
Skills
