Graduate Assistant - Student Success Coach

One-on-one academic support role for graduate students. Help students identify challenges, develop improvement strategies, and connect with university resources.

About the role

• In-person position requiring 220 working hours during the academic year
• Weekly schedule is flexible and will be determined with the supervisor based on the GA’s class schedule and departmental needs; once established, the schedule should remain consistent throughout the semester
• Tuition remission for 12 graduate credit hours per academic year (6 fall, 6 spring)

Responsibilities

• Meet individually with students to provide academic success coaching
• Help students develop skills related to:
  • Time management and prioritization
  • Study skills
  • Goal setting
  • Communicating with professors
  • Balancing academic and personal commitments
  • Creating plans to catch up when falling behind
  • Building academic confidence
• Connect students with appropriate campus resources and support services
• Provide outreach to students identified through Navigate alerts, progress reports, midterm grades, and other Student Success initiatives
• Record student meeting notes and outreach in Navigate
• Participate in training and meetings with the Student Success team as needed
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor
• Conduct themselves as a professional staff member while in the office, including dress, behavior, and attitude

Requirements

• Must be admitted and enrolled in a graduate program at Avila University
• International students are not eligible for graduate assistantships
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively one-on-one with students
• Strong organization and time-management skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
• Experience working with college students is preferred but not required
• Commitment to contributing to a climate that supports a diverse student body, serves first-generation college students, multilingual learners, and contributions to equity and social justice
