Graduate Assistant for Special Collections Teaching and Outreach
Position Information
NC State University Libraries is seeking a graduate assistant to support work in the Special Collections Research Center’s (SCRC) Teaching and Outreach program at the D. H. Hill Jr. Library. This position provides hands-on experience with teaching and outreach using special collections materials, including archival materials and rare books. Additionally, the graduate assistant will be integrated into a team of library professionals to provide direct support to students and faculty across disciplines.
Essential Job Duties
- Manage planning logistics for teaching and outreach activities, including instruction sessions and outreach events.
- Prepare archival materials and supplies for instruction and outreach activities.
- Support SCRC librarians with archival research, item selection, and lesson plan design.
- Develop supporting materials such as research tutorials and materials lists.
- Support research consultations and reference requests with students.
- Support outreach activities, including tabling events, pop-up exhibits, and workshops.
Requirements and Preferences
- Must be enrolled in a graduate program
- Special collections literacy
- Experience with teaching and outreach
- Familiarity with archives and special collections resources
- Ability to work independently
