Job Description
The Graduate Assistant – Faculty Publications & Open Access at Barnard Library supports a faculty publishing campaign, focusing on strengthening the visibility, preservation, and access to Barnard faculty publications.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect and analyze faculty CVs to extract publication data.
- Identify faculty-authored works and assess open access eligibility.
- Support outreach efforts to build a culture of faculty engagement with library publishing and repository services.
- Develop a core list of journals and review faculty publications for copyright and open access eligibility.
- Coordinate with librarians on rights checking and workflows.
- Support the promotion and use of Manifold, Barnard Library’s open publishing platform.
- Update and maintain a physical and/or digital display of recent faculty publications.
- Develop an outreach and communications plan to promote library services related to faculty publications and open access.
- Design and facilitate workshops or information sessions for faculty on publishing support, open access, or Manifold.
Required Qualifications
- Enrollment in a graduate program in Library & Information Science, Information Studies, or a closely related field.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with complex, text-heavy documents.
- Interest in scholarly communication, academic publishing, or open access.
- Strong written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with academic publishing models.
- Experience working with citation data, CVs, or bibliographic tools.
- Interest in outreach, instruction, or academic librarianship.
Hours & Term
- 8–10 hours per week
- 1–2 days per week, approximately 4–5 hours per day, or one full 8-hour day
- August 1, 2026 - January 31, 2027
