About the role
Graduate Assistants (GAs) play a crucial role in fostering a welcoming environment at SIA-NY. Their responsibilities include assisting with student and visitor inquiries, maintaining the 6th Floor Student Commons area, and supporting the Library.
Responsibilities
- Front desk coverage (including reception and answering/ directing telephone inquiries) for evenings and weekends
- Support to and assistance in managing after-hours activities at the Institute, including community events, MA classes, and evening study hours
- Work with IT to troubleshoot and assist presenters with audiovisual and classroom issues
- Clock in and out for the 6th Floor Commons and Library
- Provide basic IT support and assist with projects, such as annual collection audits
- Re-shelve books, periodicals, and complete shelf tidying/reading duties
- Open and close the Library during morning and evening coverage respectively
- Perform other office clerical duties as assigned
Requirements
- Current first-semester student at Sotheby’s Institute of Art –NY in good academic standing
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience working in an administrative role is preferred
- Face-to-face customer service experience is a plus
Qualifications
- Ability to monitor all programs, calendars, and events
- Strong IT skills including Word, Excel, Outlook, and audio/visual equipment setup
- Organized, prioritizes work activity with minimal supervision
- Maintains confidentiality and represents the Institute professionally
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Adaptable to workplace changes
