Grade School Substitute Teacher

Part-time, temporary substitute teaching position for Early Childhood and/or Grades 1–8 at the San Francisco Waldorf School.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction and maintain the classroom environment as outlined in the lesson plans provided by the primary teacher
• Foster a supportive and engaging learning atmosphere for students
• Maintain continuity and stability within the classroom
• Communicate effectively with students, staff, and administration
• Manage classroom behavior in a positive and respectful manner

Requirements

• University degree (4-year)
• Waldorf Teacher Training completed (preferred)
• Early Childhood and/or Grade School teaching experience (preferred)
• Strong classroom management and communication skills
• Ability to adapt to various teaching environments and grade levels
• TB Assessment and Livescan Fingerprinting required
• Must be authorized to work in the United States (no employer sponsorship provided)

Pay

$55 per hour or $250 for a full day.

Schedule

• Part-time, as-needed, temporary/short-term, non-exempt position
• No benefits other than those available through San Francisco City
• Position does not continue during summer break months; school breaks and holidays are unpaid

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs
• Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold
• Regularly sitting or standing for 4–8 hours

About San Francisco Waldorf School

San Francisco Waldorf School (SFWS) is an independent, co-educational, non-sectarian school providing education from Kindergarten through Grade 12. The school is fully accredited by the Western Association of Colleges and Schools (WASC) and by the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA). Established in 1979, SFWS brings the 100-year-old international Waldorf school movement to San Francisco and serves over 400 students across two campuses, including a new “green” high school campus (LEED Gold certification pending). The school also supports a nursery program and early childhood classes for parents and children.
