Grade 7 Math Teacher

About the Role

The teacher is an educational leader who guides the interests and directs the activities of students to facilitate their individual development. As a representative of the school and the school district, the teacher cooperates with other staff members to enhance the quality of educational experiences for students and maintains open communication with parents.

Responsibilities

• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
• Plans daily and long-term learning activities consistent with the district's curriculum to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
• Conducts learning activities toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
• Employs a variety of instructional methods and materials appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
• Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, provides progress reports, and completes student records as required.
• Uses assessment data to guide instruction.
• Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student conduct and develops reasonable and just rules for classroom behavior.
• Assumes responsibility for the proper care of all books and other school property.
• Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Participates in staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
• Participates in the school planning and placement team process.
• Works collaboratively with team members to modify and adjust instruction to include all learners in the classroom setting.
• Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.
• Maintains open lines of communication with students and parents concerning academic and behavioral progress.
• Uses technology as a teaching and learning tool.
• Schedules time to carry out all responsibilities, including lesson planning, student and parent conferences, professional growth, and extracurricular activities where appropriate.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the principal or supervisor for the efficient functioning of the school or program.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree.
• Connecticut State Department of Education Certification (029) Mathematics, 7-12.
