Grade 5/6 Teacher, Reading Virtual Academy

About the role

The Elementary Teacher (RVA) position is aimed at creating a flexible elementary grade program and fostering a supportive learning environment. The goal is to motivate students to develop foundational skills and knowledge, tailored to their individual abilities.

Responsibilities

• Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music to students in a classroom setting.
• Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter as per state law and district regulations.
• Provides tutoring to all Reading Virtual Academy elementary students, both face-to-face and virtually.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials to adapt the curriculum to student needs.
• Establishes and maintains a positive learning atmosphere through displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
• Evaluates student progress, keeps records, and prepares progress reports.
• Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student progress and address any concerns.
• Identifies student needs and collaborates with other professionals to help solve health, attitude, and learning issues.
• Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids, maintaining required inventory records.
• Serves as a resource for students during out-of-classroom activities.
• Administers group standardized tests as part of the district testing program.
• Participates in curriculum development and faculty committees.
• Sponsors student activities and performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.

Qualifications

• Technology experience and experience supporting students in an online teaching environment preferred.
• Possession of a Pennsylvania Instructional Teaching Certificate.
• Ability to apply basic arithmetic calculations, interpret data, and apply mathematical concepts.
• Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with peers, students, and parents.
• Physical stamina to walk, stand, sit, and lift up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
