About the role
Deer Isle Stonington Elementary School (DISES) is a small, rural elementary school serving approximately 250 students from preschool through eighth grade. Located in Deer Isle, Maine, DISES is part of a beautiful coastal community just east of Penobscot Bay along the Eggemoggin Reach. Our school community is fortunate to enjoy the picturesque beaches, trails, and historical landmarks that surround us, enriching both our personal lives and educational environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with state standards for the grade you are teaching in core subjects including reading, writing, math, and science
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to engage students and meet diverse learning styles
- Audit and monitor student progress regularly, adjusting instruction to support growth
- Foster a positive classroom community that encourages curiosity, respect, and confidence
- Communicate effectively with families about student progress and classroom activities
- Collaborate with colleagues and participate in school-wide initiatives and professional development
- Support social-emotional learning and help build a safe, inclusive environment
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of literacy and numeracy development for early elementary students
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in education
- Proven experience working with students with diverse learning needs
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Criminal History Record Check (CHRC)
