GPS Technician

About the role

William Charles Construction, a MasTec Company, is hiring a GPS Technician to support its Midwest market, primarily in Illinois. This is a traveling position, up to 75% of the time, encompassing work sites in the assigned project area and including some overnight travel. A company vehicle and fuel card will be provided, along with meals and lodging for overnight trips. The ideal candidate will live in the Midwest region.

Responsibilities

• Determine if external resources are needed for modeling projects
• Research and secure external resources for project modeling
• Review third-party models for accuracy
• Work as a liaison between model companies and the field for issue resolution
• Install GPS equipment on machinery
• Perform CAD 3D modeling for smaller projects
• Load model specifications onto equipment as required
• Troubleshoot modeling issues
• Research different survey equipment options
• Maintain a system for tracking survey equipment
• Project site orientation and verification of control
• Prepare and maintain sketches, maps, reports, and as-built surveys
• Perform various additional survey tasks

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of survey experience, preferably in the construction industry
• Desired: Experience with drone surveying applications
• Previous experience with Trimble, AutoCAD, and AgTek
• Knowledge of geological description principles and methods
• Understanding of applicable laws, legal codes, and government regulations
• Experience with Total Station
• Precise attention to details and exceptional organization skills
• Technical savvy and proficiency in Microsoft Office
