Governmental Relations Specialist
Job Location: Central Office, 105 W Capitol Avenue, Jefferson City, Missouri
About the role
This is a career-ladder position offering the opportunity for advancement without competitive selection interviews. As you gain experience and skills, you can be promoted to higher-level positions. The role involves routine entry-level liaison activities between the department and public officials, performed under moderate supervision.
This position may be filled at one of three levels based on knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Entry-level starting salary: $49,999.20
- Intermediate starting salary: $56,712.48
- Senior starting salary: $61,249.44
Note for internal applicants: Successful candidates already at rates above the posted salary will be evaluated individually to determine the final salary.
Responsibilities
- Attends legislative committee hearings and floor debates to obtain information related to bills.
- Conducts research related to proposed legislation and its potential impact on the department.
- Assists in preparing impact statements for the department's legislative committee for presentation to legislators, explaining the department's position on legislation.
- Prepares status reports and summaries of bills for the department's legislative committee; updates information on bill content as amendments are made.
- Reviews the Missouri and Federal Registers for regulations with potential impact on department operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Public Administration, or a related field, OR
- Four years of experience in positions providing exposure to governmental and legislative processes, public policy, or public-related activities.
Special Working Conditions
- Occasional statewide overnight travel required.
- Long working hours during the annual legislative sessions (January through May), with flexibility during the interim and occasional overtime.
