Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate cost estimates and detailed takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and site information for bidding and budgeting purposes.
- Analyze design documents, specifications, and subcontractor proposals to identify scope, exclusions, and risk items.
- Develop comprehensive cost breakdowns including labor, materials, equipment, overhead, and contingency.
- Obtain, evaluate, and compare subcontractor and supplier quotations; solicit clarifications and negotiate pricing where appropriate.
- Use estimating software and databases to build and maintain scalable estimate models and historical cost records.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and design teams to refine scope, schedule, and constructability considerations.
- Prepare bid packages, scopes of work, and pricing narratives for proposals and presentations.
- Support value engineering efforts to identify cost savings and constructability improvements without compromising quality or compliance.
- Ensure estimates comply with federal, state, and municipal procurement regulations and funding requirements for government projects.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and post-bid analyses; provide clarifications and revise estimates as necessary.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as an Estimator in construction or related industries; strong track record preparing accurate commercial and public sector estimates.
- Proficiency with estimating processes and quantity takeoffs; strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
- Familiarity with construction practices, means and methods, and cost drivers for labor, materials, and equipment (construction experience is a plus).
- Experience with federal, government, and city municipal contracting, procurement regulations, and compliance requirements is highly desirable.
- Hands-on experience with estimating and cost tools such as CostWorks, RSMeans, and The EDGE is a strong plus.
- Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfortable learning and using estimating software and databases.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills for working with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Relevant degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent experience; professional estimating certification (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator or similar) is a plus.
