About the role
Your job as a Gourmet Cheese Customer Service Clerk focuses on providing excellent and friendly customer service and contributing to the daily operation of the Gourmet Cheese Department.
Responsibilities
- Provide excellent customer service, address the needs of customers, and answer their questions in a timely and effective manner.
- Acquire and maintain thorough knowledge of products and services offered.
- (e.g. cheese, olives, crackers, etc.)
- Describe flavor profiles of cheeses to customers, including flavor profiles, food pairings, etc.
- Take orders with attention to detail.
- (e.g. cheese platters, etc.)
- Communicate and consult with Gourmet Cheese Manager and Assistant Manager on special order capabilities and production requirements.
- Aid in packaging, pricing, and merchandising department products.
- (e.g. cheese, crackers, chocolates, etc.)
- Maintain display cases.
- (e.g. ensure items are clean, stocked, have proper and accurate signage, etc.)
- Maintain a safe and organized warehouse and back of house cooler.
- Process deliveries as required.
- Organize, rotate, and stock workstation and department supplies.
- (e.g. cheese case, olive bar, paper goods & packaging products, etc.)
- Clean and sanitize work areas, utensils, and equipment.
- Operate equipment.
- (e.g. price scale, vacuum sealer, etc.)
- Answer phones and pages promptly and courteously.
- Follow and comply with established procedures, including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation and safe work practices.
- Immediately report safety hazards and violations to supervisors.
- Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned.
- Works all scheduled shifts and attends required trainings and meetings.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
- 18+ years old.
- Beginner knowledge of cheeses (e.g. cutting, production, taste description, etc.).
- Ability to follow directions and established procedures with attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively prioritize competing tasks in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Clear and effective communication style, both written and verbal.
- Team-player who can also work independently with minimal supervision.
- Basic math skills.
- Conversational English skills required when working with customers.
- Bilingual proficiency preferred.
Skills
- High School Diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Food Handlers Certificate (ServSafe or ANSI compliant organization).
