Description
Under direction, the Senior Laboratory Analyst performs a variety of laboratory analyses of environmental samples including wastewater, ocean water, sediment, fish tissue, air and industrial wastewater samples. Specific duties include preparation of samples by digestion or extraction, instrumental and data analysis of samples, maintenance of laboratory equipment and instrumentation; and data generation for submission and distribution of reports. Duties will include analyzing samples for organic chemicals, metals and other general chemistry parameters; characterizing wastewater using gas and liquid chromatography instruments and general chemistry methods of analysis; developing and optimizing analytical methods in accordance with established procedures; preparing reports documenting methods of analysis; and utilizing LIMS system for managing analyses. In addition the Sr. Laboratory Analyst will participate and lead in a cross-training program with other senior staff; prepare reagents/standards; maintain records/logbooks; document observations/procedures; perform quality assurance tests; and perform general laboratory daily duties.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in chemistry.
- Three years of professional exempt-level testing and analysis in the field of chemistry.
- A Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry is a plus.
- Detailed knowledge of laboratory best practices applied to environmental analyses.
- Computer software skills including word processing, spreadsheets, database and analytical instrumentation software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A valid Class C Driver’s License.
