Golf Course Shift Leader - Seasonal
Paint Branch Golf Complex, located in College Park, Maryland, is a well-maintained 9-hole golf course offering an enjoyable and accessible experience for players of all skill levels. The facility features a driving range, practice putting green, short game area, and hosts various player development programs including junior golf, clinics, and lessons led by experienced instructors.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the Manager on Duty for daily golf operations, ensuring high service levels and operational efficiency.
- Supervise and support golf operation staff, including Golf Shop Attendants, Starters, Marshals, Cart Staff, and outside service personnel.
- Coordinate daily activities across departments to maintain pace of play, customer satisfaction, and effective communication.
- Monitor staffing levels, delegate responsibilities, and adjust assignments based on operational needs.
- Address operational challenges, customer concerns, and employee issues professionally and promptly.
- Lead by example in providing exceptional customer service and resolving guest complaints or special requests.
- Oversee Golf Shop operations, retail sales, merchandising, and customer transactions.
- Assist with promoting and selling golf merchandise, memberships, range services, and facility offerings.
- Manage daily tee sheet operations, reservations, and tournament/event scheduling.
- Train, coach, and mentor staff to maintain service standards and operational expectations.
- Oversee inventory for retail merchandise, golf supplies, and customer service materials.
- Conduct inventory audits, manage stocking, and implement merchandising initiatives.
- Ensure financial accountability through accurate cash handling, register reconciliations, and sales reporting.
- Oversee golf cart operations, including maintenance, staging, and fleet management.
- Coordinate operational support for tournaments, outings, leagues, and special events.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, facility policies, and emergency response procedures.
- Facilitate interdepartmental coordination with Course Maintenance, Food & Beverage, and other teams.
- Operate the food and beverage concession and golf simulator as needed.
- Stay informed on golf industry trends, best practices, and customer service initiatives.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Experience working in a golf retail shop.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to interact courteously with the public.
- Punctuality and ability to adhere to a designated schedule.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in golf operations leadership, customer service, or food and beverage.
- Knowledge of golf (strongly preferred).
- Strong communication skills and a reliable work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting.
Schedule
This position requires a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Candidates must be available during peak times and adjust their schedule as needed to support daily operations and special events. Responsibilities include opening and/or closing the golf shop.
Working Conditions
Work is primarily indoors but may involve outdoor tasks in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, sun). Physical tasks include lifting, walking, climbing stairs, and operating golf carts.
