COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

In the COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER PROGRAM, volunteers work one-to-one with visually impaired adults in their community, assisting with reading or shopping.

SUPPORT GROUPS

Elders with low vision can gather in our peer-led SUPPORT GROUPS to share challenges and resources.

VISION REHABILITATION SPECIALISTS

Elders with low vision can work with one of our VISION REHABILITATION SPECIALISTS to learn strategies for living with limited or no vision. Special focus on reading and writing, magnification, lighting, diabetes management, home safety and daily activities.

VOLUNTEER NEEDS

  • Currently seeking volunteers in the Boston region, willing to travel anywhere in the City of Boston.
  • Willingness to travel a minimum of 10-15 miles.

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE

This MABVI participant would like a volunteer to help them in Chestnut Hill, MA! A car is needed for this volunteer role. They would like to have volunteer help once a week or bimonthly.

  • Willingness to make a positive impact in the life of a neighbor in need.
  • Relationship-building and task-oriented role.
  • Tasks such as Reading mail, Paying bills, Internet Use/Technology, Medical Transportation, Going grocery shopping, Running errands in the community, Recreational activities such as being a running/walking sighted guide, Other Clerical tasks.

TIME COMMITMENT

Volunteers typically devote 1-2 hours a week or every other week.

ONBOARDING PROCESS

  • Complete a MABVI Volunteer application
  • Completing the online, modular MABVI Volunteer Training
  • Schedule a time to chat via Zoom with a member of the MABVI Volunteer Team
  • Submit a CORI
  • Meet the MABVI Volunteer Team via Zoom or phone call
  • MABVI matches you with a MABVI participant!
