GMET Associate
About the role
The Guest & Member Experience Team (GMET) Associate position at the Natural History Museum of Utah plays a key role in the successful daily operation of the museum. This position is responsible for ensuring outstanding guest service, maintaining communication and workspace management, and conveying a general knowledge of the museum's collections, galleries, and policies. Associates also have the opportunity to learn about other areas of the Philanthropy and Communications Team through participation in department-led events.
Responsibilities
- Greet and welcome incoming and outgoing guests of NHMU.
- Demonstrate customer service standards to both internal and external guests via positive, professional communication.
- Know and enforce the policies and procedures of the GMET department and museum at large.
- Use de-escalation strategies to help resolve guest and member complaints before escalating them to the GMET Lead.
- Be aware of daily activities and programs happening in the museum.
- Maintain gallery and Info Desk cleanliness.
- Use and maintain tools provided in the hosting bags, including cleaning cloths, trash bags, hand sanitizer, objects of interest, business cards, etc.
- Proactively engage with guests in the galleries and other public spaces.
- Anticipate guest and member needs and answer questions to ensure a fun and safe visit.
- Have an intermediate-level knowledge of the galleries to help answer questions and enhance the guest experience.
- Attend monthly staff meetings and/or after-hours events.
- Assist with picking up scheduled shifts, with the intention of working up to 19 hours per week.
Minimum Qualifications
Equivalency statement: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (e.g., bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience). Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:
- Program Assistant I: Requires little to no related experience.
Preferences
Ideally looking for a candidate with a flexible schedule who can pick up open shifts as available.
Schedule
Schedule varies weekly and may include morning, afternoon, or evening (Wednesdays only) shifts. Must have at least 19 hours per week of availability, including either Saturday, Sunday, or both.
Pay
$15.00 – $15.50 per hour.
