About General Merchandise

Experts of operations, process, and efficiency who enable a consistent experience for our guests. Teams in General Merchandise (GM) prioritize guest experience while blending completion of tasks that ensure product is available and easy to shop – replenishment, pricing and signing, setting, and maintaining the sales floor and the backroom. The GM teams also execute inbound, outbound, and fulfillment responsibilities.

Pay

Starting hourly rate: $16.25 USD per hour.

Schedule

Flexible work schedule with varying hours, days, or shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and other peak shopping times.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests from 10 ft (friendly smile, eye contact, wave) and from 4 ft (warm, helpful interaction).
• Help guests find items or resolve issues to ensure a smooth, easy shopping experience.
• End every guest transaction with a sincere thank you.
• Actively support team efforts and assist peers in other areas while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
• Adjust to business and guest needs to deliver an easy and inspiring guest experience.
• Execute daily tasks assigned by the leader, including receiving products, restocking shelves, organizing the backroom, merchandise set‑up and maintenance, pricing activities, and putting up promotional signs for GM areas.
• If certified, operate power equipment to move merchandise or store fixtures.
• Learn and execute operational procedures such as setting and organizing merchandise, managing product accuracy and stock levels, and maintaining sales‑floor areas, affecting inventory management, store profitability, and product availability.
• Follow all Target policies and safety procedures, adhere to role‑specific guidelines (e.g., food safety, pricing), and help maintain a safe, compliant workplace by reporting and correcting hazards.
• Support guest services as a back‑up cashier and assist with digital fulfillment processes (picking and packing orders or delivering pickup orders to guests).
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including adult‑beverage laws.
• Perform all other duties based on business needs.

Additional Expectations

• Accurately handle cash register operations as needed.
• Climb up and down ladders safely.
• Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving items up to 44 lb without additional assistance.
• Maintain flexibility to work scheduled shifts and take required meal and rest breaks.
• Work in varying temperatures, humidity, and other environmental conditions (e.g., drive‑up, carry‑out areas).
• Remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift, which may vary in length.
