About the role

Working at Target means helping families discover the joy of everyday life. The General Merchandise (GM) team focuses on guest experience, product availability, and store efficiency through replenishment, pricing, signage, and maintaining both the sales floor and backroom. GM experts also handle inbound, outbound, and fulfillment responsibilities while supporting a guest‑first culture.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests warmly: within 10 ft with a smile and eye contact; within 4 ft with a friendly greeting and assistance.
• Help guests locate items, resolve issues, and end each transaction with a sincere thank you.
• Support team efforts and assist peers while maintaining a positive, respectful attitude.
• Execute daily tasks such as receiving products, restocking shelves, organizing the backroom, setting up merchandise, pricing, and putting up promotional signs for GM areas.
• Operate power equipment (if certified) to move merchandise or store fixtures.
• Learn and follow operational procedures for merchandise placement, product accuracy, stock levels, and sales‑floor maintenance, impacting inventory management and store profitability.
• Follow all Target policies and safety procedures, including role‑specific guidelines (e.g., food safety, pricing) and report/correct hazards.
• Support guest services as a backup cashier and assist with digital fulfillment processes (picking, packing, delivering pickup orders) while complying with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Perform any additional duties based on business needs.

Requirements

• Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
• Ability to communicate using multiple‑frequency devices, handheld scanners, and other technology as directed.
• Capability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Skill in resolving guest questions quickly on the spot.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow multi‑step processes.
• Ability to stay focused and composed in a fast‑paced environment, handling multiple tasks within established timeframes.
• Accurate cash register operation when needed.
• Comfort climbing ladders and safely moving merchandise, including lifting up to 44 lb without assistance.
• Flexibility to work varying hours, days, or shifts (including nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times).
• Capability to work in varying temperatures, humidity, and other environmental conditions (e.g., drive‑up, carry‑out areas).
• Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift.

Pay

Starting hourly rate: $17.00 USD per hour.

Schedule

Flexible work schedule with varying hours, days, or shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and other peak shopping times. Shift length may vary; required meal and rest breaks must be taken as scheduled.
