About the role

The role of a General Merchandise Expert provides knowledge of guest service fundamentals and experience supporting a guest-first culture across the store. It also includes experience in retail business fundamentals such as department sales trends, inventory replenishment, and process efficiency and improvement. The role involves executing daily/weekly workload to support business priorities and deliver on sales goals.

Responsibilities

  • Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests as you are completing your daily tasks.
  • Engage with guests in a welcoming way to help solve their specific needs.
  • Thank guests and let them know we’re happy they chose to shop at Target.
  • Execute daily tasks assigned to you by your leader to help achieve goals that align with business priorities including receiving products, restocking shelves, organizing the backroom, arranging merchandise, and putting up promotional signs for GM areas.
  • If certified, operate power equipment to move merchandise or store fixtures.
  • Execute processes including changing prices to products, merchandise set-up and maintenance, and inventory accuracy as directed by your leader for all areas.
  • Learn how operational procedures, such as setting up and organizing merchandise, managing product stock levels, and maintaining sales floor areas, affect inventory management, store profitability, and product availability.
  • Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety and compliance.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times; comply with all safety policies, best practices, and training; report hazards and correct where possible.
  • Support guest services such as back-up cashier, and digital fulfillment processes (such as picking and packing orders or delivering pickup orders to guests) and maintain compliance culture while executing those duties, such as federal, state, and local adult beverage laws.

Requirements

  • Welcoming and helpful attitude toward all guests and other team members.
  • Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners, and other technology equipment as directed.
  • Work both independently and with a team.
  • Resolve guest questions quickly on the spot.
  • Attention to detail and follow a multi-step processes.
  • Capability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes.

Qualifications

  • Open to working a flexible work schedule with varying hours, days or shifts (including nights, weekends, holidays and other peak shopping times).
  • Able to climb up and down ladders.
  • Able to scan, handle and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 44 pounds without additional assistance from others.
  • Able to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift (shift length may vary).

Skills

  • Knowledge of guest service fundamentals and experience supporting a guest-first culture across the store.
  • Experience in retail business fundamentals including department sales trends, inventory replenishment, and process efficiency and improvement.
  • Experience executing daily/weekly workload to support business priorities and deliver on sales goals.

Pay

The Starting Hourly Rate / Salario por Hora Inicial is $17.50 USD per hour. The Pay Range / Rango salarial is $17.50 USD - $26.25 USD per hour.

  • Reliable and prompt attendance necessary
