Global Tax Manager
About the role
Okta is searching for a Global Tax Manager to join its Tax Compliance and Reporting team. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong organizational, project management, and process improvement skills, proficient in most areas of income tax compliance and reporting encountered by multinational technology corporations. This role is hybrid with an onsite presence at our San Francisco office two days per week.
Responsibilities
- Lead the quarterly and annual income tax provision process in accordance with ASC 740, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and audit readiness
- Manage global income tax compliance, including preparation, review, and coordination with external advisors for U.S. federal, state, and international filings
- Actively use AI tools (e.g., generative AI for research, drafting, and analysis) and tax technology platforms as part of day-to-day compliance and provision work, and help evaluate new tools to bring into the team's workflow
- Identify and help implement opportunities to automate manual, repetitive tax processes, with a focus on improving efficiency and reducing reliance on outside providers
- Design, maintain, and improve SOX controls and documentation
- Mentor and develop Okta senior tax analysts through direct feedback
- Manage external tax advisors and service providers, ensuring their performance to deliver high-quality outcomes
- Maintain a strong working relationship with strategic business partners in Accounting, Internal Audit, FP&A, Treasury, Legal, and Stock Compensation to accomplish Tax objectives
- Coordinate with other tax team members on international, transfer pricing, and M&A tax issues as needed
- Assist with managing income tax audits and notices
- Provide tax advice with respect to corporate income tax issues
- Assist with special tax projects as they arise, such as tax planning, legal entity rationalization, acquisitions, and new entity formation initiatives
- Stay current on income tax issues impacting the company, as well as emerging AI and technology tools relevant to tax
Requirements
- CPA and/or JD
- BA/BS degree in accounting, finance or similar discipline
- Minimum 5 years working experience in a combination of Big 4 and corporate tax department with multinational operations
- Strong understanding of ASC 740, Accounting for Income Taxes, including provision review, uncertain tax positions, and global tax reporting
- Proficiency with OneSource Income Tax and OneSource Tax Provision
- Demonstrated fluency with AI tools and tax technology platforms, and genuine curiosity and a proactive approach in using them to improve how tax work gets done
- Proven ability to drive completion of tasks requiring cross-functional collaboration
- An ownership mentality with strong communication skills to communicate complicated tax issues to non-tax business partners in Finance and leadership, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
- Advanced Excel and analytical skills including experience developing forecasting models and using tax forecasting tools
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Taxation or other advanced degree
- Hands-on experience using AI/generative AI tools for tax research, drafting, or analysis
- Experience automating tax processes, especially tax provision process automation
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Strong understanding of accounting for income tax provisions under ASC 740
- Familiarity with federal, state, and international income tax concepts
- Experience managing direct reports
- Experience with Claude Code, Netsuite, and Equity Edge
Pay
The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay area is $143,000 USD - $196,900 USD.
The annual base salary range for candidates located in California (excluding San Francisco Bay Area), Colorado, Illinois, New York, and Washington is $128,000 USD - $176,000 USD. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location.
