About the role

Global Talent Ireland seeks exceptional mid-career and established researchers globally for a 6-year program to enhance research and innovation in Ireland, emphasizing diversity and strategic growth.

Objectives

• To attract excellent researchers to Eligible Research Bodies in Ireland.
• To reinforce the national Research and Innovation ecosystem.
• To support areas of strategic interest and help drive sustainable economic growth in Ireland.

Who Can Apply

• The programme is only open to Rising Stars and Research Leaders who are currently employed outside of Ireland.
• Joint Appointments are not supported through this programme.
• Eligibility of the Research Body: Must be situated in the Republic of Ireland.

Rising Stars

• Mid-career researchers who have demonstrated research excellence, independence and leadership, and have shown exceptional potential to become a research leader of the future.
• Requirements: PhD qualification (or equivalent) within 5-15 years of the current year, outstanding track record, independent research funding, experience of supervising students, and international standing.

Research Leaders

• World-leading researchers in their discipline with a demonstrated capacity for strategic and dynamic leadership on the international stage.
• Requirements: PhD qualification (or equivalent) at least 16 years prior to the current year, full professorial position, influential research, significant international awards and fellowships, plenary/keynote contributions, and successful track record in securing independent funding.

Benefits

• Career Stage: 5-15 years post-PhD for Rising Stars, 16+ years post-PhD for Research Leaders.
• Award Duration: 6 years for both streams.
• Research Funding: €1.5M for Rising Stars, €2.5M for Research Leaders.
• Startup Funding: €0.75M for both streams.
• Maximum Budget Request: €2.25M for Rising Stars, €3.25M for Research Leaders.
