Global Head, Science Innovation Communications
About the role
The role of Global Head of Science Innovation Communications involves shaping how the world understands breakthrough science through a bold, differentiated storytelling strategy. The incumbent will lead the creation of this strategy, aligning it with Novartis' research and development priorities. They will work closely with senior R&D leaders to translate complex scientific concepts into compelling narratives that inspire trust and drive engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and deliver a differentiated global science storytelling strategy aligned with enterprise and R&D priorities
- Partner with senior R&D leaders to translate complex science into compelling, audience-focused narratives
- Drive global media engagement to position Novartis as a leader in scientific innovation
- Leverage data, insights, and analytics to shape predictive, outcome-focused communication strategies
- Lead and develop a high-performing global communications team, fostering continuous learning and growth
- Integrate artificial intelligence-enabled tools to enhance communication effectiveness, reach, and efficiency
- Optimize resources and budgets to maximize impact across communications channels
Essential Requirements
- Extensive experience in communications, including leadership roles within global, matrixed organizations
- Strong understanding of the research and development lifecycle within the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry
- Proven ability to partner effectively with senior executives and influence at leadership level
- Demonstrated expertise in media relations and building impactful global media strategies
- Experience using data and insights to develop outcome-focused, measurable communication approaches
- Knowledge of AI trends and their impact on communications and information visibility
- Track record of building, leading, and developing high-performing teams in complex environments
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to engage diverse internal and external stakeholders
Desirable Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's in a science degree preferred
Novartis Compensation Summary
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $248,500 and $461,500 annually. Final pay determinations will depend on multiple factors, including but not limited to geographic location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, where applicable, including discretionary bonuses and a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Eligible employees may receive benefits such as health insurance, life and disability coverage, a 401(k) with company contribution, and various paid time off benefits, including vacation, sick time, and parental leave. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an offer of employment is extended.
