Global Head of Media Relations

As part of an industry-leading global communications team, you will help Aon share stories with external stakeholders and grow awareness and understanding of how Aon shapes decisions for the better—to protect and enrich the lives of people around the world. Communications plays a critical role in shaping perceptions within Aon and externally about how we help clients make better decisions and deliver positive outcomes. This role will further build senior talent within the global communications team, focusing on media engagement, storytelling, social media strategy, and leading a proactive, strategic media relations team.
The global head of media relations will maintain strong relationships with tier-one, business, and trade reporters, serve as a key storyteller and spokesperson for the firm, lead Aon’s social media strategy and execution, and mentor a media relations team. This leader will also establish a global Center of Excellence for media relations and external positioning to align standard methodologies across the firm.
Responsibilities
- Develop journalist relationships, pitch and secure media coverage, and respond to media queries to advance commercial objectives and influence positive perceptions of Aon’s reputation, thought leadership, and social impact.
- Build Aon’s share of voice across four key mega trends shaping client needs in Risk Capital and Human Capital capabilities.
- Implement distribution of corporate press releases, media advisories, and updates via Aon’s newsroom.
- Partner with team members to develop integrated, aligned messaging plans and content articulating the firm’s growth strategy, brand strategy, progress on key initiatives, and thought-leadership perspectives.
- Lead a global Center of Excellence for media engagement to drive a coordinated approach to proactive and reactive media relations, issues management, and agency relationships across Aon’s Marketing & Communications organization.
- Oversee Center of Excellence media monitoring and reporting platforms, enabling consistent reports on coverage (trends, share of voice, sentiment), social media conversation, and other indicators to refine communications strategies.
- Develop and lead a program preparing key leaders and others throughout the firm for media interviews and public speaking opportunities.
Requirements
- 10+ years in communications with a proven track record of producing and leading sophisticated communications in support of global business objectives.
- A bachelor’s degree.
- Experience developing and leading national and local media relationships for a publicly traded, global brand, preferably in professional/financial services, consulting, or technology.
- Ability to lead sensitive communication initiatives, balancing individual and organizational agendas.
- Proven track record of advising and building trusted relationships with senior leaders, including C-suite executives, to support media relations and external positioning strategies.
- Crisis and issues management experience preferred.

- Exceptional writing and editing skills with expertise in adapting styles and “voice” for different audiences and messages.
- Ability to communicate sophisticated concepts simply and visually, equally comfortable with “words” and “numbers.”

- Experience using traditional owned and earned channels, including multimedia and social media.

Pay
The salary range for this position (U.S. applicants) is $150,000–$200,000 annually, varying based on education, experience, skills, internal equity, and geographic location. This role is eligible for participation in Aon’s annual bonus incentive plans in addition to base salary.
