Piper Companies is seeking a Global Head of Biostatistics to lead and scale a growing global biostatistics organization within a leading CRO. This executive leadership role will define and execute the global biostatistics strategy, drive commercial growth, oversee operational excellence, and maintain full P&L ownership for the function. Reporting to the Head of Data Science, this individual will serve as a strategic partner to executive leadership, sponsors, and cross-functional teams while positioning Biostatistics as a key differentiator across the organization's global service offerings.

Location: Remote — with occasional travel to Raleigh/Durham/Research Triangle Park (RTP), NC. Candidates must be comfortable supporting global teams and stakeholders across multiple time zones, including the US West Coast.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the global biostatistics strategy aligned with business growth objectives and emerging industry trends, including adaptive designs, real-world evidence (RWE), advanced analytics, and AI/ML applications.
  • Own and manage the full P&L for the global Biostatistics function, including revenue growth, margin performance, budgeting, forecasting, resource planning, and investment decisions.
  • Provide strategic statistical consultation to sponsor executive leadership, including Chief Medical Officers (CMOs), Clinical Development Leaders, and other senior stakeholders.
  • Serve as the executive lead for statistical strategy supporting Phase II and Phase III development programs, regulatory submissions, and health authority expectations.
  • Provide scientific leadership for complex study designs, innovative statistical methodologies, and development programs across multiple therapeutic areas.
  • Partner closely with Business Development and Commercial teams to support proposals, bid defenses, client presentations, pricing strategies, and business expansion opportunities.
  • Lead a global biostatistics organization, ensuring delivery excellence, operational scalability, workforce planning, quality standards, and performance management.
  • Ensure audit and inspection readiness across the biostatistics function and maintain compliance with FDA, EMA, PMDA, ICH, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Act as an executive sponsor for strategic client accounts and build trusted long-term partnerships with sponsors through consultative engagement and scientific leadership.
  • Develop, mentor, and lead a high-performing team, including direct people leadership responsibilities for managers and senior contributors.

Requirements

  • PhD or MSc in Biostatistics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • 15+ years of progressive biostatistics experience within CROs, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or life sciences organizations.
  • Strong experience across multiple therapeutic areas, with oncology expertise required.
  • Demonstrated success leading global, multi-site biostatistics teams and functional organizations.
  • Proven track record of full P&L ownership, budget management, revenue growth, financial accountability, and business leadership.
  • Significant experience providing strategic statistical consultation to executive sponsor leadership, including CMOs and Clinical Development organizations.
  • Direct experience supporting FDA submissions, particularly Phase II and Phase III clinical development programs.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory submission strategy, health authority expectations, and inspection readiness from a Biostatistics perspective.
  • Demonstrated expertise in complex study designs, statistical methodologies, and clinical development strategy.
  • Proven people leadership experience with the ability to motivate, develop, and retain teams, including direct management responsibility for teams of approximately eight or more professionals.
  • Strong client-facing presence with a demonstrated ability to build trusted sponsor relationships and act as a strategic advisor.
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and executive influence skills.
  • Deep understanding of clinical development, drug development, regulatory requirements, and global clinical trial operations.

Pay

  • Salary Range: $275,000 - $340,000 annually
