Global Employer Services-Expatriate Tax Experienced Senior Associate

Responsible for performing research to prepare tax returns, tax equalizations, completing assignment cost projections, and work project reviews. Gathers required client information to prepare tax filings, participates in tax planning, and identifies potential risks.

Responsibilities

  • Research:
    • Identifies situations requiring research, outlines issues, and selects appropriate research sources.
    • Analyzes researched facts and composes detailed reports of findings.
  • Tax Compliance:
    • Ensures client compliance with tax authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
    • Obtains client information for tax filings and conducts detailed reviews on basic returns.
    • Prepares review notes and identifies potential tax issues.
    • Plans tax processes and procedures, identifying "gray areas" and communicating risks for contingent liabilities.
  • Tax Consulting:
    • Develops, recommends, and implements tax methods to maximize client benefits.
    • Documents significant tax positions, issues, findings, and deliverables per firm policies.
    • Assists in developing client consulting project plans and supports their completion.
  • Tax Controversy:
    • Represents clients before tax authorities on contested issues with guidance from senior professionals.
  • Tax Specialization:
    • Applies expatriate tax compliance, planning, and global implications to technical and practical client issues.
    • Identifies and applies income tax treaties and totalization agreements.
    • Provides advice on US payroll reporting for expatriate compensation, hypo tax, and housing norm deductions.
    • Administers pre-assignment and post-arrival consultations through data-gathering interviews.
    • Identifies basic tax planning opportunities.
  • Tax-Related Software:
    • Utilizes Caseware, GoSystems, tax research databases, and other tax-related software.
  • Accounting for Income Taxes – SFAS109:
    • Prepares tax accrual workpapers.
    • Understands and applies ASC740-10, industry standards, and firm policies related to FAS 109 and FIN48.
  • Strategy Development:
    • Assists in preparing studies of tax implications to identify alternative courses of action for clients.
    • Develops new ideas to improve firm positioning or client benefits.
    • Partners with other tax disciplines to recommend additional services or benefits for clients.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to associates and interns on the team.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, International Business, Human Resource Management, or related field (required).
  • Advanced degree in Accounting or Tax (preferred).
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in individual income tax preparation; expatriate tax experience preferred.
  • Prior experience preparing individual income tax returns, including involvement in VITA (required).
  • Prior experience in a customer/client service environment (preferred).
  • Prior study abroad or international work experience (preferred).
  • Prior supervisory experience (preferred).
  • Enrolled Agent or CPA certification (preferred).

Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word.
  • Experience with GoSystems (preferred).
  • Fluency in foreign languages (highly desired).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Superior customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work effectively with professionals at all levels.
  • Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently or within a team, and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of tax return filing processes and commonly used individual income tax forms.
  • Ability to manage a team of tax professionals and delegate work assignments.
  • Capacity to build and maintain strong client relationships.

Pay

National Range: $74,550 - $147,000
Maryland Range: $74,550 - $147,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $74,550 - $147,000
Washington DC Range: $74,550 - $147,000
