The School Counselor serves as a trusted partner to students, families, teachers, and administrators, helping remove barriers to learning while fostering resilience, leadership, and lifelong success.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual, small-group, and classroom counseling that supports students' academic, social-emotional, and behavioral development.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the school's academic and culture goals.
- Deliver preventative social-emotional learning (SEL) lessons and interventions that promote student success and leadership development.
- Identify students in need of academic, behavioral, or social-emotional support and develop appropriate intervention plans.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and support staff to identify barriers to learning and coordinate student supports.
- Participate in MTSS, Child Study Team, IEP, and 504 meetings, providing recommendations to support student achievement and well-being.
- Conduct student assessments, monitor progress, and use data to evaluate the effectiveness of counseling interventions and programs.
- Provide crisis intervention, including suicide risk assessments, threat assessments, safety planning, and follow-up support in accordance with school policies and professional standards.
- Serve as an active member of the school's Crisis Response Team and assist during campus emergencies and critical incidents.
- Connect students and families with school and community resources that support mental health, attendance, basic needs, and overall well-being.
- Partner with families through consultation, communication, and problem-solving to promote positive student outcomes.
- Program Management & Data: Maintain accurate counseling records and documentation in accordance with legal, ethical, and school requirements; use student data to evaluate counseling interventions and program effectiveness; analyze attendance, behavior, academic, and social-emotional data to identify trends and inform decision-making; communicate program outcomes and student progress to school leadership and stakeholders; maintain compliance with state, federal, and professional counseling standards.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a closely related field.
- Valid Arizona School Counselor PreK-12 Certificate.
- Valid Arizona Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Previous experience providing counseling services in a K-8 educational setting.
- Knowledge of MTSS, crisis intervention, student mental health, and social-emotional learning practices.
