About the role
The GIS Technician supports Geographic Information Systems (GIS) work in MnDOT’s Office of Environmental Stewardship (OES) by helping maintain spatial data and providing basic GIS services to users within OES. The incumbent will assist in collecting, organizing, analyzing, and mapping spatial data to support business operations, decision-making, and planning.
Responsibilities
- Aid in the collection, organization, and analysis of spatial data.
- Support end-users with GIS tools.
- Contribute to the accuracy and organization of OES' and MnDOT's GIS data.
Requirements
- One (1) year of professional level GIS experience.
- Two (2) years of technical experience in CAD/GIS, Surveying, Mapping, Cartography or a closely related field.
- Experience with GIS software.
- Familiar with GIS data structures, such as shapefiles, feature classes, and geodatabases.
- Ability to apply cartographic principles, including map design, symbology, labeling, and layout best practices.
- Ability to apply Introductory skills in spatial data editing and analysis, including attribute editing, spatial joins, and basic geoprocessing.
- Working knowledge of databases and spreadsheets, including Microsoft Excel, sufficient to process and track computer files used in data collection and processing.
Qualifications
- One (1) year of professional level GIS experience: OR Two (2) years of technical experience in CAD/GIS, Surveying, Mapping, Cartography or a closely related field.
- GIS Certificate.
- Experience with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.

Pay
$24.40 - $35.30 / hourly; $50,947 - $73,706 / annually

Day Shift: Monday - Friday
