About the role

The position will be responsible for cartographic design, data manipulation, data analysis, data management, and data creation from digitization or field surveys. Additional tasks may involve testing, integration, implementation, and technical support of GIS platforms. The chosen candidate will provide recommendations toward the development of new data structures and applications and review datasets for quality assurance. Primary focus will be on supporting utility industry enterprise GIS services.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure consistency of data in enterprise geodatabases and GIS data conversion
  • Coordinate updates of features and attributes in enterprise geodatabases
  • Use editing techniques to develop, manipulate, and edit vector and raster data sets
  • Revise maps and map products using GIS cartographic concepts, principles, and processes
  • Create and modify geographic data from a variety of sources (e.g., Internet repositories, paper documents, hand-drawn maps, Microsoft Excel files, text files, database tables, Google Earth files, CAD files)
  • Perform functions of the job under immediate supervision, relying on instructions and pre-established guidelines
  • Regularly interact with Actalent GIS staff, designers, engineers, and client GIS staff

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Computer Science, Geography, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field (desired)
  • Associate Degree with equivalent experience will be considered
  • Exposure to Esri applications, including ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, Portal for ArcGIS (or ArcGIS Online), Collector for ArcGIS, and Survey123 for ArcGIS
  • Exposure to Esri application programming interfaces (API), including ArcPy, Arcade, and JavaScript for ArcGIS

Skills

  • Working knowledge of GIS concepts, including editing environments, mapping projections, data conversion, map production, cartographic design principles, and digitizing
  • Ability to translate or convert data between GIS file types (e.g., importing KML files into geodatabases or exporting ArcGIS layers to other formats)
  • Ability to perform research to find and download GIS data from outside sources
  • Understanding and ability to prepare metadata
  • Basic knowledge of Windows operating system and Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, supply information, and seek assistance as necessary
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and initiative

Pay

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $33.00 per hour.
