Distinguishing Features of Work – Performs tactical, strategic, and intelligence crime analysis. Collects, analyzes, presents, and disseminates information on crime patterns, trends, and correlations. Supports problem-oriented policing projects and department performance evaluation. Submission of a current resume and an analytic work product demonstrating data querying, cleaning, analysis, or presentation is encouraged but optional. If selected for an interview, the process will include completion of an exam.
Responsibilities
- Extract and analyze data from the records management system relating to criminal activity and department performance (using SAP Crystal Reports, Microsoft Access & Excel, and ESRI ArcGIS).
- Instruct and assist department members with crime analysis and statistics requests.
- Analyze data from internal/external databases, police reports, and open-source documents to identify crime patterns, relationships, and trends.
- Forecast future crime occurrences and develop target profile analysis using data.
- Provide direct support for administrative, strategic, and tactical functions of the police department.
- Work flexible days and hours to fulfill assigned responsibilities.
- Provide strategic criminal analysis to midlevel and field commanders for resource deployment.
- Collaborate with field commanders to analyze crime trends and criminal enterprises, assisting in suspect list development and recommended actions.
- Research databases (e.g., pawn shop lists, driver’s license databases, mug shot databases) for data compilation.
- Assist investigations and patrol sections with criminal investigations and interdiction efforts.
- Develop/revise processes and products to improve efficiency, knowledge, and resource deployment.
Requirements
- Ability to lift/move items up to 50 pounds (e.g., boxes of files).
- Ability to conceptualize and solve requests without pre-existing templates or solutions.
- Sound judgment to evaluate situations objectively and make informed decisions.
- Team-oriented mindset: actively listen, respect ideas, and contribute to process/product improvement.
- Proficiency with multi-line phones, computers, and office equipment.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Possess or obtain a Kansas Driver’s License.
- Must not be impaired from testifying credibly in court or swearing to an affidavit.
- May not pose a direct threat to workplace health or safety.
- May require rotating shifts, regular days off (RDOs), weekend work, or on-call duties outside business hours.
- Must pass a polygraph, police background check, pre-employment physical (including drug screening), and criminal records evaluation.
