Key Responsibilities

  • Aid the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and conducting Junior Varsity volleyball practices, competitions, and team activities.
  • Support the development of student-athletes' volleyball skills, teamwork, leadership, and character in alignment with the school's mission and athletic philosophy.
  • Promote a positive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, accountability, respect, and academic success.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with student-athletes, parents, coaches, school administrators, and Athletic Department staff.
  • Assist with supervision of student-athletes during practices, competitions, team travel, and other program-related activities.
  • Assist the Head Coach with program operations, including equipment management, practice preparation, and other administrative responsibilities as needed.
  • Model appropriate behavior, professionalism, and adherence to IHSA, school, and Athletic Department policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with high school-aged students.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to foster a positive, inclusive, and educational team environment.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Saint Ignatius College Prep.

Qualifications - Preferred

  • Previous volleyball playing and/or coaching experience.
  • Experience working in interscholastic athletics.
  • Knowledge of volleyball fundamentals, strategies, and player development.
  • Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain).

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed primarily in gymnasium and athletic facility settings with regular attendance at practices, competitions, and occasional travel for away contests.
  • The position requires standing, walking, demonstrating athletic movements, lifting and carrying athletic equipment, and the ability to supervise student-athletes in an active sports environment.
  • Evening and weekend hours are required during the volleyball season.
