About the role

Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.

Responsibilities

  • Hold tryouts for team prospects and encourage students to participate.
  • Assess skills and determine team members and assign team positions.
  • Develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  • Coach and instruct players, individually and in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Monitor the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are maintained.
  • Model sportsmanship-like behavior and reflect appropriate conduct towards players, school community, officials, and spectators regarding policies, procedures, performances, and problems.
  • Communicate with the Principal and Athletic Director regarding policies, procedures, performances, and problems.
  • Maintain eligibility forms, emergency data cards, physicals, equipment/uniform inventory, and other related records.

Physical Demands

  • Lifting of objects that exceed 50 lbs., or the average weight of a child, if assigned to elementary grades, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs or more.

Vocational Preparation

The required vocational preparation may come from any of the following:

  • Vocational education
  • Apprentice training
  • On-the-job training
  • Essential experience in other jobs

  • Adaptability to performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
  • Adaptability to making generalizations, evaluations, or decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria.

  • Intelligence: The ability to understand instructions and underlying principles. Ability to reason and make judgments.
  • Verbal: Ability to understand meanings of words and ideas associated with them.
  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to move the hands easily and skillfully.
  • Form Perception: To make visual comparisons and discriminations and see slight differences in shapes and shadings of figures.
  • Color Discrimination: Ability to perceive or recognize similarities or differences in colors or shades or other values of the same color.
