"GIORNALISMO D’INCHIESTA - SI PUO’ FARE!?": domani a Modena al via primo incontro del ciclo

On June 10th at 6:00 PM, Ombretta Alessandrini, Campaigns Manager of Animal Equality Italy and co-author of La fabbrica della carne, will present the book at Libreria Ubik in Modena (via dei Tintori 22). The event is part of the "Giornalismo d'inchiesta - Si può fare!?" series, organized by Nevent Comunicazione in collaboration with Libreria Ubik and publisher IL Millimetro.
The book, prefaced by philosopher Peter Singer, documents undercover investigations into intensive farms and slaughterhouses across Italy and Europe, exposing systemic animal suffering through images and firsthand testimonies.
About the Book
La fabbrica della carne. Il lato oscuro di allevamenti e macelli (IL Millimetro, Inchieste series) reveals years of covert investigations. Animal Equality investigators, disguised as workers with hidden cameras, captured evidence of animals enduring extreme conditions: turkeys conscious on conveyor belts after failed gas chamber attempts, hens crammed in cages too small to move, and calves separated from their mothers hours after birth.
The book argues that the meat industry’s concealment of suffering is deliberate—hidden behind soundproof walls, glossy packaging, and neutral language like "meat," "eggs," or "milk" that obscures the processes behind them. As Alessandrini writes in her diary: "Every piece of meat is the result of a broken life. Every liter of milk was taken from a calf."
Peter Singer’s Foreword
Philosopher Peter Singer, author of Animal Liberation, introduces the book with a provocative question: Why does a dog’s suffering move us, while a pig’s leaves us indifferent? He argues this disparity stems from "speciesism"—a cultural bias akin to racism or sexism—that must be challenged.
