GiGi's Playhouse is a new nonprofit serving our area to meet the unmet needs of families in north-central Wisconsin who have a loved one with Down syndrome. Based on the national model, GiGi's brings a Playhouse to our region—a place where individuals with Down syndrome, from prenatal diagnoses to adults in careers, can grow, learn, and be celebrated through consistent delivery of free educational and therapeutic programs. Historically, families were often forced to relocate to larger communities to access these types of resources.

Organized locally in 2018, GiGi's Playhouse received $10,000 in grant funding from the Wausau Marathon County Community Foundation and an additional $15,000 from the Marvin & Ruth Schuette Community Enhancement Fund to help make this dream a reality.

"The Community Foundation was an early 'believer' in GiGi's Playhouse Wausau and our mission to change the way the world views Down syndrome diagnosis and send a global message of acceptance for all. Their early support enabled us to begin building the Playhouse and build the momentum needed to open our doors in Weston later this year," says Dawn Follendorf, board member and grant writer for GiGi's Playhouse.

About the role

This position focuses on delivering free educational and therapeutic programs to individuals with Down syndrome and their families in north-central Wisconsin. The role supports the mission of fostering growth, learning, and celebration for individuals with Down syndrome across all ages and stages of life.
