About the role

Denver Botanic Gardens is a 24-acre urban oasis in the heart of the city, accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. It features a living plant collection, natural history collection, and art collection, along with temporary art exhibitions. The Gardens' mission is to bring plants to people while upholding core values of sustainability, diversity, relevance, and transformation.

Responsibilities

  • Greets visitors and Gift Shop customers pleasantly, courteously, and promptly and actively solicits Gift Shop sales.
  • Processes customer purchases, exchanges, and returns.
  • Relays all visitor comments and concerns to management, including suggestions for Gift Shop inventory.
  • Pulls damaged or un-ticketed merchandise from the sales floor and follows proper procedures to correct the problems to resolve issues.
  • Accurately processes transactions and completes cash handling procedures as assigned.
  • Supports team members and may assist in training as needed.
  • Maintains back areas and stock rooms in an orderly, efficient, and clean condition.
  • Completes assigned tasks and communicates updates to management and team members as needed.
  • Supports merchandising efforts and overall presentation of the Gift Shop, including dusting, cleaning glass, and sweeping.
  • Assists with Shipping and Receiving to ensure the accuracy of incoming merchandise and proper ticketing.
  • Provides timely and accurate information when answering Gift Shop phone calls.
  • Works with all departments to support a high-quality visitor experience.

Qualifications

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of Gift Shop merchandise and Denver Botanic Gardens facilities (or willingness to learn).
  • Knowledge about all Denver Botanic Gardens facilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of customers.
  • Ability to handle cash responsibly and accurately.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work a highly flexible, on-call schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays, and short-notice shifts.
  • Demonstrated reliability and responsiveness for on-call scheduling.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite products, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook and Teams.
  • Must have proven excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills in dealing with the public.
  • Ability to maintain stability under pressure and able to deal well with stressful situations.
  • Ability to be flexible and willing to modify plans, when necessary, throughout the day.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite products, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook and Teams.
  • Ability to work overtime as necessary.
  • Must be a positive representative of the Gardens both internally and externally at all times.
  • Must work with respect and cooperation at all times with fellow employees and the public.
  • Must be committed to working safely at all times.
