Geotechnical Intern - Summer 2027
About the role
Terracon's Quad Cities/Bettendorf office is seeking students in civil, geotechnical, or geological engineering degree programs for a summer internship (May‑August) or co‑op (May‑December). Opportunities are available across the United States. Interns will support the Geotechnical service line, working alongside experienced engineers and state‑of‑the‑art technology. The program includes a mentor, professional‑development activities, a cohort network, and a concluding summit with leadership.
During the internship you will learn laboratory safety, testing capabilities, soil test procedures (ASTM, DOT, COE, etc.), shadow field exploration, data review, report preparation, proposal creation, basics of project management, communication of test results, GeoReport introduction, and quality‑management systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform sampling or testing as directed.
- Seek learning opportunities from mentor.
- Provide assistance to other field and/or laboratory personnel.
- Assist other technicians or professional staff on routine tasks.
- Progressively take on increased training and responsibility in work assignments.
- Create and deliver a final presentation to leadership regarding summer experiences.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil or construction engineering.
- Interest in consulting and fieldwork.
- Demonstrated curiosity, teamwork, and alignment with Terracon’s values.
- A valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history may be required.
Schedule
Internships run from May to August. Co‑op opportunities run from May to December.
