Geotechnical Engineer - Mining & Mine Waste Storage

About the role

AECOM is seeking a highly motivated staff geotechnical to support surface mining, mine waste storage and heavy civil infrastructure design and analysis as part of the growing AECOM Mining Division.

Job Summary/Responsibilities

• Performs specific and moderate portions of broader assignments
• Plans, directs and performs specific and/or moderate portions of mid- to large, complex projects under the supervision of an experienced senior engineer
• Plans, implements, performs and oversees geotechnical exploration and laboratory testing programs (30% travel/field time)
• Plans, oversees and performs geotechnical evaluations including material characterization, liquefaction, seepage, slope stability, and settlement analyses
• Prepares and reviews calculation packages
• Aids in the development of geotechnical reports, drawings and specifications
• Prepares and presents technical presentations of evaluation results to internal and client teams
• Reviews geotechnical instrumentation and prepares instrumentation monitoring reports

Qualifications

• BA/BS + 4 yrs of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency or experience and/or education
• Valid U.S. Driver’s License
• BA/BS + 6 yrs of relevant experience MA/MS Civil Engineering Professional Engineer (PE) License or ability to obtain within 1 year
• Proficient in the use of industry software such as GeoStudio, Grapher and AutoCAD Civil3D
• Proficient in the characterization of mine waste materials
• Field/Construction experience; tailings or dams experience a plus
• Familiarity with and preparing design reports, drawings and specifications
• Excellent Verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrate proactive problem-solving skills

• Resourceful, highly organized, and detail oriented
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
• Effective time-management and interpersonal Skills

The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $85,000 to $115,000 per year.
