Geotechnical Engineer

GZA’s Glastonbury and Trumbull offices are seeking a Geotechnical Project Manager to execute projects under the guidance of a company Principal. This role involves client representation throughout proposal, contract, and project performance phases, day-to-day technical and financial project execution, marketing activities, and staff mentoring. Project Managers have ownership opportunities and potential for advancement to principal levels.

Responsibilities

• Internal and client communications
• Managing project teams, delegating tasks to office and field staff, and executing day-to-day project activities
• Monitoring team performance for compliance with contractual agreements and budgets
• Providing business development support
• Preparing proposals and reviewing/writing geotechnical reports with Principal guidance
• Staff training and performance reviews
• Managing project contractual and financial issues, including terms of agreement, scope changes, and billing

Typical Duties

• Manage and mentor project-level engineers
• Monitor and document geotechnical aspects of construction projects
• Conduct and review technical analyses and calculations
• Participate in meetings and agency consultations
• Perform site compliance inspections
• Develop construction plans
• Prepare construction cost and quantity estimates
• Perform and oversee geotechnical computer modeling (experience with SEEP/W, SLOPE/W, L-pile, and Plaxis preferred)
• Assist on projects and tasks outside primary responsibilities as part of GZA’s One Company environment

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred
• 6+ years of relevant experience since college graduation
• Proficiency in MS Office and engineering software for slope stability and shallow/deep foundations
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
• Experience with financial project management
• Demonstrated delegation, leadership, and team-building skills
• Experience managing multiple office and field tasks
• P.E. license required
• Out-of-town assignments may be expected; consistent transportation to project sites and client meetings required

Pay

The base salary for this position ranges between $100,000.00 and $140,000.00. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as location, experience, education, and professional licensure.
