Geospatial Cloud Support Scientist
About the role
The successful candidate will become an integral part of the TSSC’s support for the Landsat Mission at the USGS EROS Center. The TSSC Team is comprised of highly talented remote sensing scientists, land cover scientists, software engineers, web developers, systems engineers and more who work together to support the dynamic science and technical requirements of our USGS Customer. This includes a wide-ranging portfolio of projects focused on land cover and land change monitoring, remote sensing time-series algorithm development, land cover forecasting, land change assessments, fire science, drought monitoring, ecosystem & vegetation dynamics, and other related areas.
This position will work with the Data Processing and Archive System (DPAS) project and will be responsible for assisting and providing outreach to EROS data users on cloud access and completing internal analysis of USGS Landsat and related geospatial data. This role will support an examination of Landsat and EROS data products and develop data tutorials and tools to enable analysis on how and where respective products are complementary and can be used together to describe U.S. landscape characteristics. Outreach includes creating instructional documentation, videos, and analysis workflows; developing use-case example applications and website materials; and providing webinars and trainings on cloud access and geospatial data processing within Amazon Web Services (AWS) among others. This role will also function as the primary technical support contact when end users reach out to User Services for assistance with more technical questions and troubleshooting related to coding, cloud access, and associated tools.
The Geospatial/Cloud Support Scientist must have the ability to work both autonomously and in a team environment with other contractor staff, the Government customer, and our end users. The position requires strong written and verbal communication skills. The individual must have the ability to take initiative, to develop creative solutions, and to have a willingness to learn. The position also requires a knowledge of coding as well as AWS cloud data access and processing skills to guide and mentor end users. Intermediate knowledge of moderate-resolution satellite data (Landsat, VIIRS, ECOSTRESS, etc.) and other geospatial data products (NLCD, LANDFIRE, MTBS) is a plus.
