Geologist - Mine

About the role

The Mine Geologist reports to the Senior Mine Geologist and is responsible for collecting primary geological information and performing underground geological activities to facilitate the safe, efficient, and cost-effective extraction of mineral reserves within the Pogo Gold Mine area.

Responsibilities

• Plan and prepare for each shift to ensure urgent tasks are performed efficiently and relevant information is collected and understood.
• Provide instructions for underground development heading based on thorough investigations of geology and other relevant information.
• Collect samples and mapping information from development faces to evaluate ore bodies.
• Perform geological mapping of operating ore development and other development as instructed.
• Communicate geological information to mine personnel to assist in ore extraction optimization.
• Adhere to procedures to ensure high-quality data generation in a safe manner.
• Update shift sheets with status of muckers and perform end-of-hole checks on diamond drill rigs.
• Communicate with Drilling Geologists regarding diamond drill-hole issues.
• Identify additional mineralized structures and gather and interpret assay and spatial data.
• Participate in safety initiatives and contribute to the safety culture.
• Guide Geological Technician on shift tasks and contribute to their efficient use of time.
• Contribute to the continual improvement and updating of geology procedures.
• Perform task observations to ensure compliance with standards.
• Interpret data and communicate relevant information to appropriate personnel.
• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and statutory requirements.
• Perform general tasks as instructed.

Qualifications

• Degree majoring in Geology or an equivalent field.
• Computer literacy – Microsoft Office suite.
• Good communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to learn, set goals, and safely achieve tasks.
• Ability to work within a team.
• Current Driver’s License.
• Pass a background check and post-offer physical.

Desired Experience & Competencies

• Underground production role experience preferred.
• Experience with Vulcan or Leapfrog software preferred.
• Ability to maintain or exceed best industry practice in geological and environmental tasks.
• Ability to adapt and improve procedures and practices.
• First Aid certificate.
• Awareness of MSHA Act & Regulations.
