Tetra Tech is seeking a Geologist to work within our Superior or Longmont, CO offices, assisting with environmental projects including groundwater modeling and field activities.

About the Role

The ideal candidate will have 1 to 4 years of environmental consulting experience, strong computational and computer skills, and proficiency with databases (preferably Microsoft Access), ArcGIS, and groundwater modeling tools. Attention to detail, strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to quickly learn new technical skills are essential. The successful candidate should demonstrate a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and the ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with writing proposals, obtaining bids from vendors and subcontractors, and drafting cost estimates and project budgets.
  • Conduct field sampling programs and field procedures, including soil, groundwater, soil vapor, and other environmental investigations.
  • Support groundwater monitoring, hydrogeologic evaluations, and groundwater modeling efforts.
  • Evaluate site characterization data and assist with water feasibility studies, remedial alternatives evaluations, remediation design, and implementation.
  • Interface with subcontractors and internal technical resources.
  • Develop sampling plans, health and safety plans, and supervise and oversee field investigations.
  • Prepare technical reports, memos, response-to-comments tables, figures, conceptual site models, data visualizations, and technical design schematics.
  • Review and evaluate environmental, hydrogeologic, and geotechnical data, and perform statistical analyses.
  • Support feasibility studies, remedial alternatives evaluations, remediation design, and implementation oversight.
  • Work with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, geologists, scientists, risk assessors, data managers, and other technical specialists.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Geology or Hydrogeology (required).
  • 1 to 4 years of professional environmental consulting experience (required).
  • Previous field experience, including supervision of soil and groundwater investigations, sampling activities, and subcontractor oversight (required).
  • Skilled technical writer (required).
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER Training (required or can be acquired within the first month of employment).
  • Ability to travel and perform field work/oversight (up to approximately 20% travel required).
  • Pre-employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations (required).
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (required).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science (MS) degree in Geology or Hydrogeology.
  • Experience with both sedimentary and hard rock drilling and well installation.
  • Previous experience developing and calibrating groundwater models.
  • MSHA training.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Pro or AutoCAD.
  • Experience with SQL or Access database use.
  • Familiarity with geochemistry and statistical evaluations of water chemistry and trend analysis.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment weighing 25–50 lbs in variable weather and terrain.
  • Ability to travel and perform field work/oversight (approximately 20% required).
  • Ability to walk across variable terrain, including uneven ground, in all weather conditions (extreme hot/cold temperatures, loud noises, bugs, etc.).
  • Full range of motion to support field activities (ability to stand, bend, kneel, and reach during field activities).

Work Environment

  • Based out of the Superior or Longmont, CO offices with potential for a hybrid work arrangement (candidate must reside within 25 miles of the local offices).
  • Field work includes outdoor activities in various environmental factors (weather, altitude, terrain, noise, bugs, drilling sites, industrial facilities, etc.).
  • Office work includes extended periods sitting or standing at a desk using a computer and other office equipment.

Schedule

  • Full-time, Monday through Friday (40 hours per week).
  • Occasionally extended hours may be required based on project and/or client needs.

Pay

Target salary range: $60,000 to $70,000. Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including education, relevant and demonstrated work experience, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.
