About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Geological Technician to join our team on the Gunnison Copper project. This position will assist the logging geologist with geotechnical measurements, collect information from drill core and RC drill chips, conduct safety inspections, analyze data, perform core sampling, insert QA/QC controls, deliver samples to the lab, organize and inventory the core shed, and support field mapping and sampling. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in geology, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Responsibilities
- Transport, organize, and clean core boxes and RC chip trays.
- Conduct geotechnical measurements, collecting data on core recovery, RQD, specific gravity, magnetic susceptibility, XRF, XRD, and photos of drill core.
- Collect data on magnetic susceptibility, XRF, XRD, and photos of RC drill chips.
- Conduct core sampling, insert QA/QC (blanks, duplicates, and certified standards) samples, check samples before shipping, and deliver samples to the assay lab.
- Conduct safety inspections and vehicle pre-ops.
- Organize and maintain inventory of Core Shed materials, core boxes, chip trays, rejects, and sample pulps.
- Support surface mapping and sampling campaigns.
- Locate drill sites and support drilling logistics.
- Analyze geological data and create maps and reports.
- Collaborate with other team members to develop and implement projects.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in geology or currently in the final semester.
- 3+ months of experience in geotechnical work.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to walk, climb, and stand for extended periods of time.
