Geological Engineering Intern - Summer 2027

About the role

WSP USA hosts hundreds of interns across the United States to gain hands‑on, meaningful work experience to enhance their education and professional aptitude. Interns gain exposure to real projects while working side by side with senior staff and receive mentorship, networking opportunities and lifelong career connections through the Developing Professionals Network. The Earth and Environment Team is seeking a full‑time Geological Engineering Intern – Summer 2027 to work out of the Lakewood, CO office; St. Louis, MO and Tucson, AZ will also be considered. This is a 12‑week temporary internship scheduled to start on May 17, 2027, with flexible start dates. No relocation or housing assistance is provided.

Responsibilities

• Support a variety of geological engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Learn basic principles of geological engineering.
• Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
• Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
• Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
• Complete training on assigned tasks.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
• Travel will be required depending on project‑specific requirements.

Requirements

• Actively enrolled in an accredited Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2027 or later.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Demonstrated interest in Geological Engineering or a related field and a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
• Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.

Skills

• Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
• Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to execute projects.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation software, spreadsheets, and other technology tools.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in an accredited Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related Masters or PhD program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2027 or later (preferred).
• Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus (preferred).
• Member of and/or actively participates in local professional practice organization (preferred).
• 40‑Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (preferred).

Expected Salary (all locations): $22.17 – $2
