Responsibilities

• Teach part-time Geography courses as assigned at the Madera Community College at Oakhurst Campus or off-site locations.
• Use diverse pedagogies and integrate technology for face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats.
• Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
• Employ effective teaching methods aligned with institutionally approved curriculum.
• Evaluate student progress through tests, exams, written assignments, and oral responses.
• Provide course syllabi to students and maintain classroom records per District Policy.
• Submit grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
• Teach in various instructional settings and times, including as needed.
• Fulfill all instructor duties as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
• Perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

• Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
• Master’s in geography; or
• Bachelor’s in geography and Master’s in geology, history, meteorology, or oceanography; or
• A valid California Community College Credential; or
• Equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency petition).

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into responsibilities.
• Recent experience working with racially minoritized students (e.g., African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American) and understanding historical exclusion patterns in higher education.
• Willingness to examine and improve instructional and relational practices to support racially minoritized students.
• Related work or professional experience.
• Experience with students of diverse cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities.
• Experience with underrepresented populations (e.g., students of color, foster youth) and ability to support sociocultural and socioeconomic diversity.
• Facilitation of multicultural and cross-cultural communication with sensitivity.
• Experience with under-prepared and high-need community college students.
• Collaborative approach to enhancing instruction, curriculum, and student success.
• Proficiency with instructional technologies.
• Effective communication with students and staff.
• Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials.
• Understanding of the community college mission and goals.

Pay

• Newly hired part-time faculty placed on step one of the Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
• Salary classification based on education and experience as outlined in the Part-Time Faculty Salary Classifications.
• Sick leave accrual based on assignment hours.
