Geography Adjunct (Summer and Fall 2026)

About the role

Germanna Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. The College is a dynamic learning organization that serves as a Germanna regional leader and preferred partner where quality learning experiences enable students to participate effectively in the social, economic, political, intellectual, and cultural life of their communities. Germanna Community College is centrally located in Fredericksburg, VA between Washington D.C. and Richmond and between the Blue Ridge mountains and the Chesapeake Bay. Full of history, the area offers a community rich with diversity, the arts, technology, vineyards, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, and many other activities. Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in a classroom environment to students with a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences.

Responsibilities

• Teach specific classes in the designated discipline.
• Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
• Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
• Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of GCC and the VCCS.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree with at least eighteen graduate semester hours in the specific discipline.
• Official transcripts will be required prior to final offer.
• Ability to demonstrate the use of relevant technology and learning management systems to effectively facilitate teaching, learning, assessment, and communication.
• Commitment to student engagement in the online teaching environment including maintaining consistent communication and virtual support mechanisms to ensure student success.
• Technology capability (access to WIFI, computers) to teach remotely.
• The ability to teach in a variety of modalities including virtually.
• Demonstrate competency and commitment to continuous professional development in virtual education.
• Complete Growing with Canvas and TOPS 2.2 prior to teaching.
• Experience with or willingness to learn artificial intelligence tools.

Additional Considerations

• FEA Requirements: Valid Virginia K12 Teaching License (preferred) or willingness to seek licensure.
• Prior teaching experience.
• Experience with on-line teaching.
• Planning and teaching courses in the classroom.
• Creating curriculum that meets the needs of the students and learning outcomes.
• Support student success.
• Communicate effectively with students and colleagues.
• Absess student learning and meet the requirements of the program.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
