About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Generator Technician to join our Mission Critical Operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for the continuous availability, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of our emergency standby power systems. Because our customer operates on a strict zero-downtime requirement, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring our backup diesel generators and associated switchgear are always ready to take compliance-critical loads at a moment's notice.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance (PM) on large-scale industrial diesel generators (ranging from 45kW to 1MW+), including oil/filter changes, coolant system flushes, and fuel system inspections.
  • Troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical and electrical faults on engines, alternators, voltage regulators, and electronic control panels (e.g., Cat, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Kohler).
  • Execute regular resistive and reactive load bank testing to verify generator capacity and performance under full data center load conditions.
  • Maintain Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) and paralleling switchgear. Assist the critical facilities engineering team during live infrastructure transfers.
  • Serve on on-call to respond immediately to generator alarms, power outages, or equipment failures to mitigate any threat to data center uptime.
  • Maintain meticulous logs of all testing, fuel management, emissions tracking, and maintenance activities in compliance with local environmental laws (EPA/NFPA 110) and internal standards.

Requirements

  • Experience: 3+ years of experience servicing and repairing large-scale industrial diesel generators (experience in mission-critical environments like data centers, hospitals, or military settings is highly preferred).
  • Technical Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a trade school program, military training (e.g., power generation specialist), or manufacturer certification (Cat, Cummins, Kohler) is strongly preferred.
  • Electrical Expertise: Deep understanding of AC/DC electrical systems, control wiring, schematics, and the ability to safely use digital multimeters and megohmmeters.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work comfortably in confined spaces or varied weather conditions.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a trade school program, military training (e.g., power generation specialist), or manufacturer certification (Cat, Cummins, Kohler) is strongly preferred. Deep understanding of AC/DC electrical systems, control wiring, schematics, and the ability to safely use digital multimeters and megohmmeters.

Skills

  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in using digital multimeters and megohmmeters.
  • Knowledge of AC/DC electrical systems, control wiring, and schematics.

Benefits

Comprehensive insurance benefits — medical, dental, and vision — plus a 401(k) plan, referral bonuses, and generous PTO.

Pay

Competitive salary commensurate with experience.

Schedule

Flexible schedule to accommodate on-call requirements.
