About the role

Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays. Assist with administration of objective testing instruments or work assignments. Help maintain neat and orderly classroom. Help with inventory, care and maintenance of equipment. Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports. Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups. Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus and playground duty. Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
  • Absorb and apply new knowledge and skills as needed.
  • Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
  • Help with inventory, care and maintenance of equipment.
  • Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  • Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus and playground duty.
  • Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.

Requirements

  • Accredited High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency).
  • Associate Degree or 48 College credit hours or pass an academic assessment.
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate.
  • Six months of knowledge and skills acquired through work experience or successful completion of a specific training program for teacher assistants is preferred.
  • Demonstrated general knowledge of child growth/development and behavior characteristics.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people from various backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated willingness to remain current with the latest developments in the profession.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Travel throughout the district is integral to this job. A remote working environment /alternate work arrangement is not an option for campus-based employees/campus-based positions because regular and punctual attendance at the worksite and performing all duties at the worksite are essential job duties for all campus-based personnel.
