About the role

City of Industry paper mill has an opening for a General Worker. This is a rotating shift position and is responsible to the Production Supervisor, Shift Supervisor, or Machine Tender.

Responsibilities

• Safe and efficient unloading and storing of incoming recovered scrap material
• Maintenance of related equipment and general housekeeping of the beater room and yard area
• Safe and efficient unloading and storing of incoming recovered fiber
• Unload baled recovered fiber using a fork truck with a clamp attachment
• Learn and recognize the different kinds of corrugated furnish (wastepaper) used in formula mixes for varied grades of paper
• Move and store loose recovered fiber using a Caterpillar T-12 tractor with a clamp attachment
• Keep the storage area and aisles clean and orderly
• Load fiber onto hydrapulper conveyor
• Haul bales from storage and place them in temporary storage areas for consumption on the second and third shifts
• Safe and efficient operation of a Hyster 8000 Clamp Truck to load the pulper conveyor with baled furnish and to unload baled furnish from flat-bed trailers, storing them according to type and grade
• Safe and efficient operation of a Toyota 4500 Fork Truck for hauling bins, equipment, scrap rolls, etc. from one area of the mill to another
• Obtain a fork truck license
• Follow Sonoco's best safety practices and report any damage or unsafe conditions immediately
• Perform other assigned duties

Requirements

• Ability to manually push, pull, and lift some equipment and materials as needed (mechanical means are used where possible, but some manual exertion is still required)
• Excellent work history in safety and attendance
• Ability to work a shift rotation (28-day cycle / 1 weekend off per month), holidays, weekends, and overtime
• Attention to detail to meet customer expectations for superior performance and exceptional value

Pay

$28.44 per hour

Schedule

Rotating 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts:

• Work 7 days straight of 1st shift (6am - 2pm) from Saturday - Friday, then off 3 days (Saturday - Monday)
• Return on Tuesday and work 7 days straight of 2nd shift (2pm - 10pm) from Tuesday - Monday, then off 1 day (Tuesday)
• Return on Wednesday and work 7 days straight of 3rd shift (10pm - 6am) from Wednesday - Tuesday, then off 3 days (Wednesday - Friday)
• Repeat the above schedule
