About the role
Located in the Selkirk and Monashee Mountains, Trail and nearby Rossland offer abundant outdoor recreation and a welcoming community. The position is with Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) in Trail, where you will join a collaborative medical team providing comprehensive surgical care to a region of 85,000 residents. The hospital features 24‑hour emergency/trauma care, intensive care, renal dialysis, neonatal intensive care, and numerous specialty units. You will also have opportunities to teach UBC medical students and contribute to Physician Quality Improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Address a broad spectrum of surgical cases reflecting the active lifestyles and diverse needs of the community.
- Provide 4 operating‑room days and 4 endoscopy days per month.
- Deliver high‑quality care across the region, including Kootenay Lakes Hospital (Nelson), Castlegar and District Community Health Centre, Grand Forks’ Boundary District Hospital, Slocan Community Health Centre, and Arrow Lakes Hospital (Nakusp).
- Teach 3rd‑year medical students in partnership with the UBC Faculty of Medicine.
- Participate in Physician Quality Improvement (PQI) projects supported by Doctors of BC.
- Work with a dedicated medical staff and hospitalist service for perioperative and clinical support.
Requirements
- Licensed general surgeon eligible to practice in British Columbia.
- Foundational expertise in endoscopic procedures.
- Resilient and analytical approach to surgical practice.
