About the Facility
Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) in Trail is committed to the health and wellness of the 85,000 residents across the region. The hospital provides 24/7 emergency and trauma care, along with specialized units for intensive care, acute medical conditions, renal dialysis, and neonatal intensive care.
KBRH’s dedicated specialists cover a wide range of disciplines, including ophthalmology, otolaryngology, orthopedic surgery, pediatrics, plastic surgery, psychiatry, urology, general surgery, obstetrics & gynecology, neurology, oncology, and internal medicine. The hospital also features a 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART), positioning it as the regional hub for critical care.
About the Role
Join the KBRH team as a general surgeon, where your expertise will address a broad spectrum of surgical cases reflecting the active lifestyles and diverse needs of the community. The role offers a collaborative and supportive environment with comprehensive perioperative and clinical support from dedicated medical staff and hospitalists.
You will have access to 4 OR days and 4 endoscopy days per month, catering to a wide range of surgical needs. Your skills will also support other facilities, including Kootenay Lakes Hospital in Nelson, Castlegar and District Community Health Centre, Grand Forks’ Boundary District Hospital, Slocan Community Health Centre, and Arrow Lakes Hospital in Nakusp.
Collaboration with the UBC Faculty of Medicine provides opportunities to teach 3rd-year medical students and participate in Physician Quality Improvement (PQI) projects supported by Doctors of BC. This role allows you to balance professional development with meaningful contributions to clinical education and healthcare innovation.
Part-time opportunities are available for those seeking flexibility. Locum positions are also offered, with coverage for approximately 10 days per month from November 2025 to June 30, 2026, including hospital-based on-call coverage (24-hour weekends).
Compensation
Compensation Type: Fee-for-Service
If launching a private practice, note that overhead costs will apply.
The Rural Specialist Locum Program (RSLP) provides coverage for travel and accommodations, including up to $1,560 for travel time costs and reimbursement for reasonable transportation and lodging expenses.
